DiffScope Freeware License

DiffScope Freeware License, version 1.0
Copyright © 2026 DiffScope. All rights reserved.

Please read this license carefully. By downloading, installing or using DiffScope, you agree to its terms. If you do not agree, do not download, install or use DiffScope.

1. Definitions

“Software” means the DiffScope application, including its executable files, associated files and documentation, as distributed by DiffScope, together with any updates or new versions that DiffScope provides and that are not accompanied by a different license. It does not include the Third-Party Components.

“Third-Party Components” means software owned by others that is distributed with the Software under its own license, as listed in the third-party notices below.

“You” means the person or organisation that downloads, installs or uses the Software.

2. License grant

Subject to the terms of this license, DiffScope grants You a free of charge, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to download, install and use the Software on any number of computers that You own or control.

3. Restrictions

Except as expressly permitted by this license or by DiffScope in writing, You may not:

  1. copy, distribute, publish, sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense or otherwise make the Software available to any third party, including by hosting it on websites, download portals, file-sharing services, package repositories or software bundles. Copies made only for installation and backup on computers that You own or control are permitted;
  2. modify, adapt, translate or create derivative works based on the Software;
  3. reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Software, except and only to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this limitation;
  4. remove, alter or obscure any copyright notice, trademark or license notice in or on the Software.

Telling others about DiffScope and linking to its official website is welcome.

4. Ownership

The Software is licensed, not sold. DiffScope retains all right, title and interest in and to the Software, including all intellectual property rights. All rights not expressly granted to You in this license are reserved. This license does not grant You any right to use the DiffScope name or logo, except to refer to the Software.

5. Third-party components

The Software is distributed with Third-Party Components that are licensed to You under their own licenses, not under this license. Nothing in this license limits Your rights, or grants You rights, under those licenses. Their license texts are included with the Software and summarised in the third-party notices below.

6. No warranty

7. Limitation of liability

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. In those jurisdictions, sections 6 and 7 apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

8. Termination

This license is effective until terminated. It terminates automatically, without notice, if You fail to comply with any of its terms. On termination You must stop using the Software and delete all copies of it in Your possession or control. Sections 4, 6, 7 and 10 survive termination.

9. Changes and new versions

DiffScope may release new versions of the Software under different license terms. Each version of the Software is governed by the license that accompanies it or is published for it at the time of its release.

10. General

This license is the entire agreement between You and DiffScope about the Software. If any provision is held to be unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent possible and the remaining provisions remain in full effect. A failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.

Third-party notices

DiffScope is built with the following open-source software, which is included in the download under its own licences. DiffScope has no other bundled runtime dependencies.

Electron

Electron (version 44.5.1) provides the application runtime. It is licensed under the MIT License. The same text is included in the download as the file LICENSE, in the DiffScope folder next to DiffScope.exe.

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions:

The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

Chromium

Electron includes Chromium, which in turn contains many open-source components (for example V8, ICU, Skia and FFmpeg) under a range of licences, including BSD-style, MIT, Apache 2.0 and LGPL licences. Their complete copyright notices and licence texts are included in the download as the file LICENSES.chromium.html, next to DiffScope.exe. Open it in any web browser to read them.

Where to find the files

After extracting the zip, open the DiffScope-win32-x64 folder. LICENSE (Electron) and LICENSES.chromium.html (Chromium and its components) are in the same folder as DiffScope.exe.
